We had a great meeting on May 12, 2016 and missed those of you who couldn’t attend. A huge thank you and shout out to Page and Palette in Fairhope, AL for setting up our tables ahead of time and providing such a great venue for our meetings. We discussed creative ways to advertise on our blogs and covered quite a bit of information. We all left with fresh ideas for our individual blogs.
Donna Weber shared good news about her talk at the Fairhope Rec Center and the possibility of future speaking engagements. We are all very happy for her new success and wish her the best. Jenna and I shared a bit about our upcoming cookbook and ideas about future ads. Miriam had just returned from New Orleans and will be posting soon about her trip. She was also excited to hear several ideas for ads on her weight loss journey blog. She looked absolutely beautiful and is doing great on her journey. We look forward to great things on her blog! Leslie Anne shared her success stories with (AL.com) http://connect.al.com/user/latarabella/posts.html and offered lots of great advice about advertising. In particular, Leslie Anne shared that we should all visit http://www.sixsistersstuff.com/ and (BlogHer) http://www.blogher.com/blogging-basics-media-kit?from=pop for ideas about advertising.
Our next meeting will be June 9, 2016 at 10 am and Jenna Meon will be facilitating. The topic of discussion will be “Ways to Spark Your Creative Genius” and will include the how-to’s of photo editing.

Hello Fellow Gulf Coast Bloggers and Guests,
Our February meeting will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Fairhope Public Library. Alan Samry has scheduled a study room and our speaker will be Taylor Ripley with TurkReno, Incorporated. His topic will cover, but is not limited to “Making Adsense Work for You.”
Mr. Ripley is the President and Chief Technology Officer of TurkReno Incorporated. He oversees the day-to-day projects of the Corporation and works as a platform developer. He is fluent in matters of network security, social media strategy and online behavior analysis. He co-founded CertGuard, Inc. in 2006 and served as the Vice-President until the company was sold in 2010. Mr. Ripley graduated from Faulkner State College with an Associates of Applied Sciences, and was the recipient of a Network Administration Systems Specialist certification as well as the 2008 annual James H. Faulkner State College Computer Science Award.
He holds Microsoft certifications and has achieved certifications such as the CIW Professional certification. He is an active member of the communities in and around Mobile, Alabama. In his spare time, he enjoys photography, biking, spending time with his friends and family, Twitter and gaming on the Sony PlayStation Network.
Our January meeting was at the home of Alan Samry where we participated in a creative writing workshop, facilitated by Alan. Under his guidance, we used a collection of antique postcards as prompts to write to each other. We each chose one card from his beautiful collection and wrote a short note relevant to the picture on the card. It was a fun and imaginative exercise that helped us think outside the box regarding where to get ideas for posts or articles. It was also an encouragement to stretch our creativity in how and what we write. We also left with homework to do the following:
- Choose a room in which you want to write
- Describe the room
- Choose music to listen to and inspire you
- Listen to and use the lyrics as you develop your story
- Develop one character, which could also be a persona
The December meeting was organized by Debbie Holobaugh and we had a wonderful Christmas Luncheon at the Grand Hotel. We missed those of you who could not attend.
Plans for 2016
We have other speakers in the works for the upcoming year, so please mark your calendar for the second Thursday of the month. We will also schedule evening meetings to accommodate those who work during the day.
Happy New Year!
Gulf Coast Bloggers’ November meeting will be held at the home of Kim Burdette. We will meet on November 10, 2015 at 10 am with guest speaker, John O’Melveny Woods. He will be addressing self-publishing including e-books and other options. We will go to lunch in the area after the meeting. If you are interested in attending, please email Kim at email@example.com.
